2 + 2 = 4...

The Rowan's (that's me...) were blessed with two handsome boys...

The Simpler's (that's my sister-in law & brother-in-law) were blessed with two beautiful girls...

That makes four children under the age of 8...

I remember that I have been in pink withdraw when I see them. There are ribbons & tights & sandals & ponytails & detangler & dolls & ruffles & princess discussions...

What about dragons & poop & superheros & ninjas & bloody toes & bruises? Oh yeah, I still get those discussions too. Except they are laced with discussions like, "Cade is cute Mommy. I am going to marry him." Guess we will have to break the bad news when they get older...Sorry, first cousins don't marry each other in this family....

So here are the crazies- enjoying an afternoon of Slip-N-Slide without a single cry or injury.

Here is to the two cutest nieces in the world. I ♥ them so much... please try to ignore the monkey boy, I promise we feed him...

Forever In Blue Jeans

Great trip to the zoo on Sunday...and it yielded this fun little photo taken by Bob...

Me...smiling.

Cade...indifferent.

Mo...pretending to ignore the camera. (...and tickling my neck in the process.)

That about sums up my crazy boys!

My reality...

...living in the Northwest without air conditioning.

...loving two little strong willed boys.

...wishing I was smarter in my 20's.

...watching my 7 year old do a handstand while I am scolding him. (and smiling to myself because I did the same to my mom & dad when I was growing up...ADHD baby!)

...wanting to see 30 pounds fly off my body quickly.

...craving Red Vines ALL the time. I mean ALL the time.

...still getting blemishes in my 30's.

...picking up after all three men in my home.

...living with eczema.

...a strong addiction to food.

...experiencing numb toes when I wear high heels or walking shoes.

...wondering when the next mole will pop up on my body.

...having a terrible sweet tooth.

...pampering myself every Sunday.

...wishing I had more patience.

...sleeping on 6" of a bed, while my 7 year old takes up 36".

...no TV.

...can't get enough of dance music.

...wishing I would stick myself out more.

...overworked for 10 yesrs. Now having a hard time with the slower pace.

sigh...and that is just a small slice of my (couldn't be better) reality.

Our own Tarzan...

This was new...well, Morgan terrorizing his older brother was nothing new- but climbing the rope to the top was CRAZY NEW!

Forever In Blue Jeans

It's white T-shirt night!!! Just Mo & I hanging out and reading the new library books for the week. Sorry nothing catchy to say this week, I am sure next week will be more exciting!

The long walk...

I discovered today...

It is 2.85 miles (or 6,245 steps) between our home and the movie theatre showing Harry Potter. I know this now. And HP6 was AWESOME!

It is also 1 mile (or 2,112 steps) between said movie theatre and the Lynnwood Public Library...

You are probably wondering why I felt compelled to go the the library, well,I was carrying 10 lbs of books on my back that were due back to the library. So I turned them in and I felt so light. But Nooooo- I just had to get another 10lbs of books to carry back home. What was I thinking? It will be worth it when the boys see the new books.

Next, it is 2.90 miles (or 6,382 steps) between the library and our home.

And that, my friend, was the long walk... a total of 6.75 miles.

Now when I go on walks I always see interesting things, so this time I took a camera with me. So check these out...

This is both sad and hilarious in the same breathe. I wonder when she held Part 1? I missed that one.

We grow fields of dandelions here...Until I moved to Seattle I did not know that these things can get 3'-0" tall and they are actually bushes!!! A picture tells a thousand words.

And this last one? It's the Elementary School that Cade attends. There is nothing more lonely that a school during the summer.

I am off to collapse...and in case you are wondering...I walked for the exercise, but also because I wanted to eat a bag of Red Vines during the movie. This way- I did not feel guilt. Everyone wins!

Except tomorrow-I imagine I will be unable to move...

Basil, Shrimp & Orzo, Oh My...

I pulled one out of the archives tonight...something Bob & I used to eat on a regular basic, bb. (bb = before boys)

You start with this...

And you end with this...

Add corn-on-the-cob, roasted green beans and bread for the finishing touches...it was very tasty AND healthy! Let me know if you are interested in the recipe and I can publish.

I have to say, one of the best meals we've had in awhile...and the boys? They snacked on corn dogs. I really need to work on their palettes...

Off to watch one of the HP movies, not sure which one, but got to warm up for Wednesday's premiere...

Not Me Monday...

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

So we started the week out with a boom. My boys know everything about a bathroom...what they can touch, what they should not touch, never lay on the floor, always wash your hands yadda, yadda, yadda. So as I was walking past our guest bathroom on my way to do who knows what! something very important I did not catch my youngest dipping his hot wheels car into the toilet and licking off the water. Nope! Not me!

And I ended the week with a boom, too. I have started getting a manicure on Sunday's as some down time. It is nice and quick...just thirty minutes of my time, but that is enough to let my mind wander away from life and relax. Well, my mind would neve wander so for off that I did NOT find myself frantically returning to the salon to retrieve my engagement ring...ummm, my wedding band...yep, and my brand new 10 year anniversary band. I am sorry, but that was some other dunce...(Did I spell dunce right???) An aside: And baby, when you read this- please don't be upset. I promise it will NOT happen again. I love you...

Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled NOT ME moments. Now go out and kick that NOT ME moment right into your life...we all have them, they make us laugh...they make us cry (and then laugh)...and the make us mad (sigh-and then we laugh again)

Not Me Girl signing off...

Forever In Blue Jeans

A couple more shots from our great camping trip over the weekend. I love the first one because of the look on Mojo's face...such mischief that one. Then (gasp) a picture of just me taken by Cade. He did good- it;s not even slightly blurry.

Before 40 List- Number Three...

What happened to me? I believe I promised to do these every Saturday. Well, you see how consistent I can be... But Alas! 'My List of things to do before I turn 40' blog post is back on

So without further delay here is...

Number Three:
'I will lose (gasp) 25 lbs.'

Ohhhh boy oh boy! I am going to love the health benefit to this one. I know it sounds like alot, but really I know I can do it. I put my foot down...well, I guess it would have been several feet down as I did have to walk...and joined the cult again.

CULT??? Now before you get all snippy. It's only WeightWatchers...and it really is an easy program for me- at least it was last time.

I had a great journey in 2006 and lost a whopping 18 lbs in 2 months. Grated it took me the following 2 years to gain it all back plus a little more fluff. This time I am going in with a different approach...and it is veggies, veggies, veggies. Wish me luck.

Now if I could only get Number Three started I can then start training for Before 40 List-Number One.

Here's to life and living it...

Sneak Peak(s)...

Hi Everyone! How have you been??? Well, I promise I have several posts in the works... I just can't seem to de-clutter my mind to finish a single one!!!

For example:

Can't wait to tell you about how I caught Morgan dipping his hot wheel car in the toilet and then licking it...

Oh- and see this place...

Can't wait to tell you about our awesome stay here. along with all the bugs. Did I mention they were BITING bugs? Yeah...and I was so proud because I didn't get a single bite. WRONG! It is Wednesday now and I can't stop scratching my ankles.

Then- I have another 'My list of things to do before I turn 40...' post. Is it a tattoo? parachuting? hmmmm- No to the parachuting for sure.

So stay tuned and I promise to have one up tomorrow.

Night or shall I say Morning everyone!

The 4th...

What a full day.

This day even required me to take a nap! A nap that my sister felt compelled to photograph. She promises to crop the photo though so that my bum does NOT look as big as the side of a barn...why can't photos be more flattering and slimming??? Oh Well.

So here are a few photos from this evening's fireworks show. Luckily we only had one burn in the house...Mojo leaned across the punk...he is now sporting not ONE, but TWO Diego bandaids... I hope you all faired better!

Morgan during the National Anthem...

Cade doing Lasso moves with sparklers...

Mojo - 4th of 'Yoga'

Cade & Parker - Double Lasso Move

Our final firework (at home) for the evening...

Simple Pleasures..part deux.

This is one of my favorite posts...so I decided to do a part Deux.

there are some things, everyday things that bring simple pleasure and sparkles of happiness in life. They don't cost a thing. they just are...luckily we all have them, but they are different for each of us.

If you get too busy you will go through your day without any acknowledgement, without any thought to how truly amazing some of the simplest acts can be. They are not large, they are not even significant, they just are...

This is part deux of my simple pleasures' list, this is my sparkle, this is my smile...I hope you have some of these moments as well...
  1. Returning to your home and climbing into your own bed after a short vacation.
  2. The first Drink of a Diet Pepsi.
  3. When my boys touch my face with their little hands.
  4. Going to bed with the sounds of crickets at night.
  5. Waking to the sound of birds in the morning.
  6. Sand passing through my toes.
  7. Blowing bubbles
  8. The sound of fireworks.
  9. Going on walks before 7:00
  10. That last yawn before unconsciousness.

Now - take time to slow to a 'whoa...', and watch what's going on around you with your head held high. Life is a gift, but a happy life is a treasure.

13 of 52...Late!

Forever In Blue Jeans

We just got back from a great little mini-vacation with my family and my sister's family...I will blog about the actual 'place' later...along with the bugs and heat and bear poop...but for now here are pictures of me with both my boys and my one and only nephew.
